Program Educational Objectives

   The Department of English offers two theory papers (Communicative English and Technical English) in the first two semesters and three practical papers in the subsequent three semesters. We use strategies such as CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning), MALL (Mobile-Assisted Language Learning), Flipped Learning module that possess a potential solution to language learning barriers in terms of time and place and thereby giving learner autonomy and allow the students the space for learning with interest.The department has begun to provide online support to the students through tailor-made MOOCs. There are four teaching staff members and a technical staff in the department. The department is headed by Dr. R. Latha Devi

   The Communication Laboratory is well equipped and strengthened with updated versions of PCs to produce world class professionals with adequate communication skills and soft skills.

English CLub
Communication skill is an art that gets refined with constant practice and solemn efforts. In order to provide the platform for enriching the communication skills of the students, the department of English has established an English Club under its aegis. The club often conducts Group Discussion, Debate, Elocution, Turn coat to brush up their language skills.Through this club, a number of competitions are conducted and prizes are awarded to the winners. It has organized various guest lectures by eminent personalities. Mr. Shankar, Deputy Manager, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Nasik visited our campus at regular intervals and trained our students in the field of soft skills and also on technical topics as Basic Aircraft and how and aircraft flies,GPS and INS Navigation Systems,and Aircraft Flight Data Recorder. Dr. K. Balasubramaniam, Retired Professor of English, M S University Tirunelveli delivered a lecture on "Empowering Communication Skills".
Quality Improvement Cell
Quality Improvement Cell has been established in our campus as per the direction of Commissioner of Technical Education and Director/Centre for Faculty Development Anna University,Chennai to promote self-learning among the students and there by exposing them to e-resources. The cell encourages and motivates the students to learn beyond the syllabus. It also aims to improve the teaching skills and knowledge of the teachers. It has a digital library with numerouseducational resources CDs consist of NPTEL videos by IIT, spoken tutorial by IIT Bombay and Edusat classes by CFD. In order to inculcate the reading habits of the students, the cell has purchased a lot of story books including comics, novels, and short stories.
